How to recognize the amber?

The scientific method of distinguishing amber from natural and artificial resins is the test in the infrared light. Unfortunately, this method is not used too often, because of its small availability. A simple and easy method of recognizing the amber is its weight and smell. Unlike the stone, amber will stay on the surface of salty water, and after kindling it will start to smoulder and exude a mysterious smell. That is where one of its names came from: Bernstein means in Germanic languages ? ?the stone that burns?. When gazing at amber we can see the infinite colours, hues and passing time.
